FORT MONROE, Va. — Sergeant 1st Class Corey King of Texas Tech University has been selected as the 2009 NCO of the Year for Accessions Command. He will represent Cadet Command and Accessions Command at the Training and Doctrine Command NCO of the Year competition July 19-23.

King bested Eastern Region’s NCO of the Year, Sgt. 1st Class Nevin Gamble, 4th Brigade’s operations NCO, held earlier this year at Fort Knox, Ky.

It was the second year in a row Western Region took the title. Last year’s NCO of the Year went on to win the Accessions Command and Training and Doctrine Command’s level to compete in the final Department of the Army competition.

“I’m real excited about being selected,” King said. “It’s not something I’ve done in the past. I competed when I was younger, in infantry units. This is a totally different experience as a more senior NCO. It’s been a lot of fun and a lot of hard work. It’s great that I get the opportunity to test my skills and remain sharp.”
